Akbar Ahmed delivers a powerful message: education is by far the most effective and reliable of all possible strategies for building peace in Pakistan. When he was invited to come as featured speaker to launch the Bradley Hills Endowment for Higher Education in Asia, Pakistani expert Akbar Ahmed accepted enthusiastically. This professor, anthropologist, author and former ambassador strongly endorses Bradley Hills’ program of building an endowed supply of scholarships for both Christian and Muslim women to study at Forman Christian College (FC College). He points out that the design – to invest in the future of Pakistan by creating an endowment for women’s scholarships – is an excellent way for Americans and others to have a positive, long-term impact on the critical region of central Asia. His speech will highlight the value of education in an interfaith environment in a Muslim country and provide a global context for understanding its impact.
The event will also feature remarks by Harriet Fulbright, whose Fulbright Foundation carries the motto, “Peace through Education.” BHPC’s own Bob Deans will serve as moderator. The event will provide opportunities for Bradley Hills members and friends to participate in a question-and-answer period following the featured speaker.
Contributions to the endowment should be made to: Bradley Hills Presbyterian Church, noting “Asia Endowment” in the memo line or in accompanying letter. Click here to view the event brochure.
